My Jandson Home Project: Milestone 2
Council approval
Objective of this milestone: Get Council approval to build your new home
This project stage is largely in the hands of the Council. The timing shown below is typical for a standard Development Application under normal circumstances; but the time taken can vary, for example if the Council is short-staffed or experiencing a heavy workload, if the application raises complex issues, if neighbours raise objections, or if the application is referred to a full meeting of Council for approval.
What you have to do
What we have to do
Week 1
You can use the Council’s registration number to track the progress
of the application on the Council’s website.
- Check that Council has received and accepted the Development Application.
- Notify you of the Council’s registration number.
Week 2
Make an appointment with the Colour Consultant to discuss your internal colour selections and to finalise any other variations and options. Well-considered colour selection decisions are best made in a quiet and unhurried environment. You should allow three hours for this meeting, without distractions.
The Council posts details of the Development Application on their website and puts the application on display for public inspection.
Week 3
The Council starts the neighbour notification program. (Your neighbours have 14 days to consider and object to the proposal.)
Week 4
Review the variation notices. Return them to us approved or talk to your consultant to discuss any corrections required.
Note: the only variations that can be added to the contract after this will be Council requirements, if any, specified in the Development Approval.
Prepare final variation notices resulting from the colour selection meeting, and send them to you.
Week 5
When the neighbour notification period has ended, the Council will assign the Development Application to one of their inspectors. We communicate at least weekly with the inspector until the application is approved, to deal promptly with any matters that may arise.
Week 6
The Council inspector will visit the site and refer the engineering, drainage and landscape details to the relevant Council departments for comment and recommendation.
Week 8
Council initiates final assessment and approval, covering —
- submissions from neighbours (if any)
- inter-departmental queries on compliance issues
- responses from you or from us on any queries or issues raised
Week 9
- Receive notification of approval.
- Notify you that we have Development Approval!
