Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to build a new home?
The total project, from signing the contract to moving in, is usually around 40 weeks (single storey) to 55 weeks (large two storey). But please be aware that there are many factors that can influence the timing one way or the other: the nature of the site, the number of options you choose, council requirements and workload, and bad weather, to name just a few. See the My Jandson Project for a more detailed timing plan.
Can I visit the site during construction?
The short answer is no, except by prior arrangement.
Safety is an important and fundamental issue at all constructions sites, which we take very seriously. As a responsible builder, we have a duty of care to anyone on site (not just our workers) and we have specific obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Construction sites can be dangerous, and by law we cannot allow you, your family, and especially your children, to be exposed to danger.
To meet our workplace health and safety obligations —
- We keep the site secure, locked with a padlock and chain if necessary.
- We do not permit any unauthorised site visitors.
Please respect these safety considerations. Do not enter the site unless authorised and accompanied by the Site Supervisor or another Jandson representative.
There are normally two inspections during construction. You will be invited to attend to the pier hole inspection, which takes place shortly before the slab is poured, and the final inspection which takes place on practical completion. Contact your Customer Co-ordinator if you want to arrange any other site inspections.

What are the advantages of building a new home over buying an existing home?
- Warranty: A new home is covered by warranty, backed by the NSW Home Warranty Insurance Scheme (which is regulated by the NSW Government Office of Fair Trading).
- Safety standards: A new home comes with the latest safety features, including smoke alarms, electrical safety switches, and hot water tempering valves.
- Energy efficiency: New homes built in NSW must meet the latest BASIX energy efficiency requirements. The energy efficiency of an existing house will depend on the standards in force at the time it was built (if any — there were no mandatory standards until ????), plus whatever insulation and other energy features the subsequent owners may have chosen to install.
- Lower cost of ownership: New homes need less maintenance. Coupled with savings through better energy efficiency mean that the total cost of owning of a new home will be lower than the costs for an existing home of the same value..
Is Jandson Homes financially secure?
The recent announcement of an administrator being appointed to Beechwood Homes has created a high level of anxiety for new home buyers. The past year has been very difficult for the housing industry with both a continued downturn in sales and wet weather causing delays in construction. Poor sales have also led to price cutting and giveaways by some builders which in the longer run are not sustainable. Jandson Homes, having been in business for over 20 years, has traded through two previous downturns. We anticipated this downturn and made the necessary cost cutting and financial planning decisions early in the downturn. More...
